Hamid Farzaneh, CEO and Founder
Hamid Farzaneh is a change catalyst who specializes in taking early stage companies with innovative technologies into accelerated growth mainstream markets. He was most recently CEO of Varioptic.
Prior to Varioptic he was President and CEO of DisplayLink where he raised $56M venture funding and, in less than 3 years, transformed the Cambridge, UK, R&D startup into the dominant global supplier of display networking chips.
Prior to that he was executive vice president, Sales and Business Development at Silicon Optix, a fabless digital video and imaging IC start up based in Silicon Valley.
Before Silicon Optix, Mr. Farzaneh was the co-founder and COO of Motion Sense, a fabless MEMS controller startup that enabled gesture-based user interfaces for games and handheld devices. Earlier, he served as executive vice president and COO for Genesis Microchip, architecting a dominant market share position in the explosive growth digital displays IC controller market. In his preceding career, Hamid Farzaneh had worked with various Fortune companies and start-ups including National Semiconductor, Qualys, ASAT and Renault.
Stein Kuiper, Chief Technology Officer
Stein Kuiper is one of the world’s leading liquid lens and electrowetting experts. Prior to joining Optilux, he led the liquid lens activities at Philips Electronics in the Netherlands for 11 years.
Mr. Kuiper was one of Phillips’ most prolific inventors and holds 44 US patents in this field including Color correction in a variable focus lens, Focusing Lens With Electrowetting Based Macro Switch, Optical Element For Correcting Refractive Index Related Aberrations and many others.
He holds a master’s degree in Physics from Eindhoven University and a Ph.D. in MEMS technology from Twente University.
Mr. Kuiper has also worked at Shell Solar where he was on a team advancing the efficiency of solar cells and at Shell Research where he worked on the prevention of scale formation in water.
He grew up in the Netherlands and is also an accomplished track and field athlete. Mr. Kuiper was the Dutch champion in shot put and discus throw several times and in 2010 he won three silver medals in the world championships for masters in Canada.
Randall Fahey, Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Randall Fahey is a recognized expert in the wireless industry and a seasoned technology executive. His experience spans design, development, marketing and sales of communications ICs and signal processing solutions. He was the founder and principal consultant at DSP and Wireless Communications, a global business development and strategy consultancy based in Silicon Valley.
Mr. Fahey has held executive positions with Stream Processors, MorphICs Technology and ZSP Corporation. Prior to ZSP, he was responsible for wireless semiconductor products for GSM handsets and infrastructure at AT&T Microelectronics/Lucent Technologies. He also served in strategic marketing and applications management roles for the company’s mobile communications signal processors group.
Mr. Fahey has worked as an integrated circuits specialist for Nokia Mobile Phones in the UK, an ASIC design manager for AT&T Microelectronics in Munich, Germany, and Paris,France, and as a senior design engineer with Motorola’s European semiconductor division in Geneva, Switzerland. He was a member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, and an IC designer with IBM.
Randall holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
H.W.Wang, General Manager, Asia
H.W.Wang has over 15 years sales ,marketing,operations and manufacturing experience in the electronic and optical industry. His previous positions include Vice President of Kenmec, a public company in Taiwan. His extensive expertise covers Factory Automation (FA), Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) and Solar cell in Great China area.
Prior to that he was senior vice president at Sanho enterprise ,helping company develop international sales business like Hewlett-Packard,Canon to be a world-class supplier of TFT -LCD(Thin film transistor liquid crystal display) optic component.
Earlier Mr. Wang joined American-based company of 2netFx and INT’I(acquired by Lionbridge) to setup branch office at Taipei, Beijing and responsible for strategy,sales,marketing,business development ,customer support.
H. W. Wang holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management from Taiwan’s Danshui Oxford College and an Executive MBA from National Chengchi University.
Joshua Weinberg, Marketing and PR
Joshua Weinberg is the founder and president of The Digital Life Consulting Group. Since 1989 Mr. Weinberg has helped companies introduce successful technology products, drawing on his extensive professional launch, product advising and public relations experience as well as his deep technical knowledge.
Using insights from his long perspective as both an industry insider and as a discerning user of new technologies, Josh knows how to communicate the big ideas and benefits of a new product to its intended audience. He is an expert at translating the bits, bytes and technical jargon of new technology products into language and concepts that resonate with mainstream consumers and experienced users alike.
During his career, Mr. Weinberg has successfully launched a wide range of products for clients and technologies ranging from toys for Intel to cell phones and the PlayStation 3 for Sony.
More recently, Mr. Weinberg launched Truveo.com, the widely acclaimed video search engine; PushPin, Placebase’s dynamic online mapping product; QiGO, the Internet experience key introduced at Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher’s D5 conference; and PairUp the social networking service for travelers that won the DEMOgod award at the DEMO conference.
Mr. Weinberg also creates and leads historic walking tours of San Francisco and sits on the board of San Francisco City Guides.
